Dr. Visit today....

Uhg, maybe I should wait until I cool down a little more before I post this. To say I am not happy is a severe understatement. I actually had to ask Glenn if I was letting my personal feelings get involved in forming my opinion of events from today's visit, and well, some of it may be emotions but we agree that neither of us is happy with the situation OR the way it was handled. The Doctor pretty much in his wonderful nonchalant way believes that we (or rather Mikala) have caused the holes in her mouth. He said he has never seen anything like this happen AND that the only time he has ever seen any holes open were because the child had either A). Stuck a pencil through the palate or B).a finger. Mikala has two HUGE areas which have opened, not one, and she has constantly had her hand covered from day one. On a positive note, the areas that are still closed are healing nicely. He said that there is nothing he can do for the opened areas for 6-months, that the areas must heal first. I am fine with everything but the part of how he blamed us (and Mikala), had he said he was not sure what could have happened or even that there wasn't enough to pull from and he was afraid this might happen I would have felt much better. We are now seriously considering a second opinion. From the beginning I have not been happy with the way his office has communicated with us but they are not the doctor so I felt it was not all that important...now I am thinking its a whole package, and one we might just have to consider for the sake of our daughter. Those of you who know us/me are welcome to offer your opinions and advice since I am willing to listen!! It is all about Mikala, and her well being.  Posted by Picasa

Susie, I'm with you on this, I would also considering a second opinion. The reason he is pushing blame on Mikala is he does not want to take blame for a job that was not done right. Sending you and your family lots of love...

I would definitely get a second opinion! Some doctors just cannot for some reason take the blame or look for solutions beyond blaming the patient--as a woman who has seen MANY a doctor, I have seen it often.
If you want me to get you in touch with Caroline--the other CAI mom whose daughter had palate the same day as Mikala I can get you her email. I know you live apart, but maybe she can get her doctor in on helping or getting you another opinion. Just let me know.
Best to you all!
